There is much faith placed in the future. However, the future is already here. What we do now, today, individually and collectively in towns is what their future will become. In Of Pride and Place, ten architects from around Ireland tell us their stories of making work — schools, squares, market halls, studios, houses and more — in the heart of a town. Others find new life for old buildings, make small adjustments across several locations, or seek to map nationally the latent potential of vacant institutions that have come to embody our challenging histories. Operating within specific policy frameworks, planning guidelines and economic restrictions, what emerges in these interviews, with confidence and commitment, is a call to action to harness the architectural imagination and skill toward empowering communities to take ownership of their built futures, fostering civic pride, day after day, town after town across Ireland.
